The latest addition to the Roland-designs collection of sampler patterns based on original antiques is this colourful sampler stitched by Anna Hansen in 1899.
The sampler is stitched in wool on canvas and features both cross-stitch and Algerian eye. The sampler is attractive, with lots of colour, five different alphabets, and decorative borders. Little Anna had a little hard time calculating the spacing between the borders and alphabets. Inn two of the alphabets, you can see how she solved the problem by just stitching over and around the letters. When I charted the sampler, I purposely left the mistakes in the final pattern.
Fr. stad stands for Fredrikstad, a port city in the county of Østfold, Norway. Fredrikstad was founded in 1567 and named after the Danish king Frederick II. ‘Stad’ means city.
