News, garden, Berlin woolwork, romantic needlework.

I was digging through my stash of Berlin woolwork patterns looking for my next charting project, when I found these two floral borders. I presume you could use the repetitive pattern for a bellpull, or curtain holder.

But somehow the roses asked to be transformed into something more 'special'.

Then I remembered how my son Alain had asked me a question about dragons, and I had pulled out a book about medieval stories to show him the tale of George and the dragon. Then later when I was cleaning, I picked up the book with the intent of putting it back on the shelf..... as it usually happens, when I pick up a book I open it and get distracted.

Tristan and Iseult
My eyes fell on the story of Tristan and Iseult ( or Isolde as some people spell it )

There is a saying attributed to the legend; a lovers desperate words, which begged to be translated into stitches.

‘Ni moi sans vous, ni vous sans moi !’

Which directly translated from French is ‘ Neither I without you, neither you without I’.

The legend of Tristan and Iseult has all the romantic intrigues of an Arthurian tale, a love triangle, a noble knight, a beautiful princess, a good king, a knave, betrayal, a love potion…
Cross stitch pattern inspired by the legend of Tristan and Iseult.

Autumn is now well underway, and I have started to get the garden ready for its yearly rest. This year I have again lost all salads to slugs, and root aphids. But, the herbs have done wonderfully, I have an abundance of parsley and the thyme that started as a tiny seed in the spring is now fully grown and wonderfully scented.

I usually dry my thyme, but the excess of parsley is a first for me. So I decided to try two different methods, drying and freezing. I hung some little bunches to dry, and froze small meal sized portions. I am still using the one from the garden, so I will get back to my readers later on in the year as to what my verdict is about frozen/dried parsley.

Thyme

Parsley, and more parsley..... I have another bunch in pots too, and we have used it almost daily this summer in sauces and salads.

The pumpkin grew, and grew but did not on the ground, it elevated itself and passed through the garden chair and attached itself to the table..... No wonder pumpkins are creepy....... !

Dahlias

Rosaline helping to rake the apples, notice she is is wearing grandma's pink clogs.

The rest of my books arrived and now I am the proud owner of three Tasha Tudor books.....For the gardener, antique collector, or anyone who feels like they were born in the wrong century, these books are a  real inspiration.

Tasha Tudor's garden. The private work of Tasha Tudor. Tasha Tudor's heirloom crafts.

Who can resist a book with a chapter called ' A garden lost in time'.

Just had to share one more pic of my lazy 11 year old cat. That cat has lived a charmed life, and left charming claw marks on all the furnitures, and walls.....
