Starting a small business in Norway, selling on ETSY, epla.no, ebay, finn.no, your own site.

Here is a collection of information and links I have collected in regard to being a sole
proprietor/hobby seller in Norway.

One thing that cannot be stressed enough for those of you who are taking your little business seriously, and want to show  a profit whether large or small is to keep track of everything going in and out.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

For those of us who are running a small online business, or considering starting one it is  interesting  to know that the official stand in Norway is:

' Grensen mellom hobby og næringsvirksomhet er ikke klart definert i loven. Hobby er skattefritt, mens næring er skattepliktig virksomhet. Du kan ikke selv bestemme om du driver hobby eller næring.'

How kind, we can't decide !

So, what should you do about selling online via etsy, your own site, ebay, or epla.no ?

- Keep records, write everything down !
- Every time you buy supplies, or have to pay a toll to pick up your supplies at the post keep the receipt.
- Keep track of the site fees, paypal fees, and other fees related to your sales.
- Date everything !

If your profit is small then don't fret. If your are selling for more and more and feel that you will keep on doing this for a year or more, then you might want to register your business as a sole proprietor, and take a little trip to the tax office to make sure you are registering your ' income' correctly.

An important point is : If you are making a profit and are going to register your business, be aware you might have to pay ' moms' ( 25 %), and it will affect your taxes, so you might want to include that in your price... another reason to price your items correctly !

Here is another source of information... or more rightly a little digest of the basic laws regarding hobby sellers and art sellers in Norway.

The link is to the epla.no site, a similar site to ETSY but based from Norway.
